Aspen Schools | Aspen Community School Online Art Auction | March 9th - 22nd
People that live in the Aspen community know that Aspen schools are renowned for their outstanding education system - just a little example of this is when U.S. News & World Report awarded the first place ranking to the Aspen High School in the State of Colorado this past year. So when a vital part of the public school system, The Aspen Community School, which is a K-8 public charter school in Woody Creek needs a little help from the community for a new facility, we are all compelled to jump into action.
ACS was awarded a BEST (Building Excellent Schools Today) challenge grant of $4.2M, but only if the school can raise its match by May 1. The school will be holding an online auction until March 22nd with works of art up for bid donated by art legends such as Karl Hollinger, Thomas Benton, Mark Cesark, Kris Cox, and Jody Guralnick among its assembly of 90-plus artists who have donated pieces. Art auction bidders will help raise funds towards this raise-it-or-lose-it challenge to rebuild the school campus.
“The way the community has rallied in support of this auction has been extraordinary, which is a reflection of how much they value this public charter school and its remarkable arts program,” said Melanie Muss, ACS parent, board president & Shane Aspen Real Estate broker. “Thanks to the generosity of the artists and sponsors, 100% of proceeds will directly benefit the campaign and will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the State of Colorado.”
The school, known for its standout program in the visual and performing arts (Kate Hudson and Felicity Huffman are alums), is one of the State’s best performing schools, in one of the lowest-performing facilities. Since its inception in 1970, the Aspen Community School has been a leader in arts education, both in the valley and the nation. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts honored ACS with its National School of Distinction Award.
All winning bids, less the retail value of the artworks, are tax-deductible. Bid today on extraordinary art and know that you will be benefiting an extraordinary Aspen public school and the artists of tomorrow.
